What's the vibe today . . .

Designers that play together

What do you get when you combine two mom entrepreneurs with great visions during an economic downturn? A new hip product for the child in your life. Read on!

What it is

Penny Seto, mom of two boys and owner of Milk Factory Designs, and Amy Rogerson, mom of one boy and owner of Shirtseed, recently put their heads together on ways to weather the economic downturn. To make a long story short, Rogerson was looking for a local supply of ethically produced colourful t-shirts for her fun screen print designs and Seto was looking for a way to spice up her line of Quick Wick Activewear. With a little bit of mommy magic and business sense, the final outcome is a cool collection of limited edition tees.

Why we like it

Without a doubt, we love supporting local moms doing great business. Seto and Rogerson do just that. They make it their mandate to make sure our children are wearing safe, non-toxic threads that are made in Canada. In fact, the inks used on the screen prints exceed the CPSIA standard for safe lead and phthalate levels.

In general, we’re big fans of Milk Factory’s line of performance gear for kids on the go. The light-weight fabric is quick-dry and has a natural UPF 40 sun-protection, which makes it a great item to wear for the coming summer months. And in the winter, Milk Factory’s clothes make for great layering to help keep your children warm and dry while hitting the slopes, and enjoying other outdoor or indoor adventures. We also dig Shirtseed t-shirts as they are printed on natural, bamboo/organic cotton, but what sets this line of shirts apart from any other is the cool screen print designs in an antique tricycle or vintage chopper by Rogerson. Now that Milk Factory’s shirts are decked out with Shirtseed’s popular bike designs, there’s no doubt that they’ll be able to weather the recession storm.

Where to find it

The limited edition tees are available in two designs for girls and boys with matching stitch on brown in short or long sleeve online at www.milkfactory.com or www.shirtseed.com or in Vancouver at Milk Factory’s studio.
